Hello. I'm Dr. Prerana Manohar, President and Founder of Laxmi Consulting Inc., parent company of HeartStar. I created the HeartStar Program over 10 years ago to make a positive impact from a tragic event. Let me tell you about a story that changed my life and I hope will change yours for the better….
In 1996, I was caring for a man who had come into the hospital with a heart attack. What was unusual at that time was that he was very young. This 28 year old truck driver had two teen age children and a wife. He was gone from home most of the time because of his job. He was doing his best to support the family that he loved. He had developed an unhealthy lifestyle with his work. He smoked, did no physical activity, was overweight, and ate all his meals at the typical truck stops. He knew this lifestyle was not good for him, but he did not know how he could change under his circumstances. He came in with a left anterior descending artery blockage. His blockage was fixed, and he pulled through the heart attack, although he was very sick and needed to be on life support machines. Approximately three days after his heart attack he was well enough to be off the life support machines, and we were able to talk about his risk factors. He was eager to change things to lower his risk of another heart attack so that he could be there for his family. He had hope for a healthier and better life.
Unfortunately, later that afternoon, he arrested, and died despite aggressive efforts to resuscitate him. There was no need for this man to die. He left behind two young children and a wife because of a heart attack that was very likely preventable. He wasn't a bad guy, he knew his habits were unhealthy, but he did not know how he could make positive changes towards good health.
It was too late for him, but I thought right then and there, I didn't want it to be too late for anyone else! Most of heart disease cases and so many other diseases are preventable. This was my inspiration; I wanted to turn this man's tragedy into something positive that could benefit millions of people. And so I made it my personal mission to help as many people as I could prevent heart disease and other preventable diseases, and live long, healthy, and enjoyable lives.
He was not the only one like this out there with unhealthy lifestyles. We all know of people, maybe even ourselves, that aren't the healthiest that we could be. But how do we even take the first step to making positive change? And even more difficult still how do we sustain change? We have all lost those ten pounds only to find a year or two later we have gained it right back.
Most people have more that enough knowledge on their health and risk factors, but do not know where to begin. And although lots of organizations exist to educate people on health, very few exist to help people make lifestyle changes that could save their lives. And worse yet, almost none of these are successful. If only there was a program that would hold the hand of the people that wanted to make positive changes in their health, and walk them every step of the way, so that they could take their desire for a healthier self and make it a reality.
And so with this passion for prevention in my mind and heart, HeartStar was born.
In our modern day, there doesn't seem to be a moment to spare. We are constantly moving from place to place and task to task. And while we are doing wonderful things for others, we never make time for our own lives, and most importantly, our own health. And if we do not take care of ourselves, we can not take care of others. In this imbalanced world, HeartStar helps to restore our balance and health through sensible lifestyle choices. It is not about squeezing what you like into your busy life, it is about centering yourself on what it is you like in life and making the most of it. Life is to enjoy in good health. We are here to help you do that.
SO WHY THE NAME HEARTSTAR?
The two most important parts of the program are reflected in the word HeartStar.
The "Star" does not refer to the program. The "Star" is you, the participant in the program. You have the courage to make healthy changes in your life. For this we salute you and all your efforts by referring to your "Star" qualities.
The "Heart" in HeartStar is one of the most important principles of the program. None of us go through life making changes simply because we are told to do so by some doctor or because they are on a checklist. We make successful changes in life, because we are motivated by what matters to us in our hearts, in our lives, in our core. These Life-matters are the Heart-matters, or the "Heart" in HeartStar that is respected throughout every step of the program to make sure that the lifestyle changes that you choose to make are the ones that are meaningful to you, your heart, and your life.
And so the name HeartStar came about to reflect the importance of you, the participant and the importance of Life-matters or Heart-matters as we like to call them, in making healthy choices and healthy changes.
Our goal is to implement this life changing program into the lives of the people within your organization.
Please contact us so we may share how we may positively impact the health of your organization and protect its most important asset . . . your people!
